An Inadequate Painted History of Mexico - CaSa Exhibition

posted on 2021-03-20, 14:37 authored by Dexter DalwoodThe series of paintings by Dexter Dalwood that form An Inadequate Painted History of Mexico arose from a residency in Mexico in 2017, and discussions with the local community and secondary school students Oaxaca state. The paintings have been constructed in order to raise questions in the viewer’s mind: What is the history that is being depicted? Who does this history belong to? Is it possible for an artist that is not from one culture to make images that are specifically about another culture?
The original opening date for the solo show at CaSa (Centro de las Artes de San Agustín), San Agustín Etla, Oaxaca was November 2020. The exhibition was postponed due to Covid-19, and will now be open 5th June 2021 – 11th September 2021.
This item contains images of the paintings chosen to appear in the CaSa exhibition.
Please note that some paintings appear in both the MUNAL and the CaSa exhibitions.
