Fragile Stories - Seeds and Syntax, London, 2015
Fragile Stories explores the complexity of mark making on an intimate scale, using typographic punctuation and careful precision to create skeletal structures inspired by the natural world and textile samples. It responds to nature as lines, shapes and rhythms of contemplative repetition, and to stitching as text and language.
Seeds and Syntax was a two-person exhibition with Julia Farrer at Eagle Gallery EMH Arts, London, 6 February 2015 - 6 March 2015.
Alongside other works, Bonnell exhibited the work 'Moss Box', a unique work that was made as a result of Bonnell’s residency at the Albers Foundation in 2014, and responds to Anni Albers's collection of lace samples. The box contains 10 folded envelopes of graphite drawings, mirrored by pin-pricked drawings, and the dried, pressed botanical samples on which they are based. Detailing includes letterpress, knitted paper yarn and collaged elements held in hand-folded envelopes. Box H15 x W42cm; pages 15cm x 14cm, opening to 15cm x 28.5cm.
'Ginko Leaf' (2013) was first shown at Seeds and Syntax (2015).
