In Her Dream is a solo project commissioned by fig-2, consisting of a live performance, an installation and video at the ICA theatre and Studios in February 2015. It was a multidisciplinary and intercultural performance, inspired by the true story of a woman who murdered her abuser, forcing riots and legal reform on domestic violence in Korea.
This item contains a performance outline, a fig-2 programme leaflet, 10 images of the performance, a 4.15' video extract, an ICA stage plan, a collaged artwork for publicity by the artist, a diary extract used in the performance and an invitation to the launch of the fig-2 programme.
This item documents the performance of In Her Dream at the ICA theatre on the 9th and 12th February in 2015. Developed in collaboration with musicians, choreographers and dancers In Her Dream stemmed from Young In Hong's extensive research into the historical exploitation and abuse of low paid women. Using poses from archival imagery to develop the choreography, and bringing together the dual influence of both western and eastern musical traditions, Young In Hong aimed to create an operatic performance of heightened gesture and movement to explore gender inequality in repressive societies.
An interview and Q & A with the artist and fig-2 curator Fatos Ustek took place after the performance of In Her Dream.
