This collection brings together an extensive body of new textile works created for two exhibitions, Red Work in 2014 and Wit of The Stitch in 2016. Combining 19th century redwork techniques with digital printing, drawing and collaged ephemera, Howard explores new ways of communicating contemporary narratives.
Red Work comprises pictorial textiles inspired by redwork quilts of 1880s America.
This item documents the Red Work exhibition's further travels to The Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead, Wirral (2015), the Burton Art Gallery, Bideford (2016), and the textiles industry trade fair The Knitting and Stitching Show, Alexandra Palace, London (2017) and The Knitting and Stitching Show, Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh (2017).
Red Work was also the subject of a Textile Matters symposium hosted by the Bath School of Art and Design in April 2016. Included here is a document detailing the speakers who participated in the symposium.
