The Record Player Orchestra is an interactive and performative installation exploring the possibilities of collaborative and symbiotic manipulation of sound through physical engagement with a record player, turntable and a bespoke vinyl record.

This item contains a contextual outline, 4 photos of Newton Park Studio, 11 recordings each paired with an explanatory text and 2 videos of the recording sessions.

This item documents the Newton Park Sessions, a joint research project between Roger Clarke and Professor of Music at Bogota's Universidad de Los Andes, Sandro Carrera. The project resulted in the Record Player Orchestra recording a digital album and vinyl record for the Sello Disquero Uniandes SDU record label at Newton Park Studio, Michael Tippett Centre, Bath Spa University over 3 days in July 2017. A total of 17 recordings were made, 11 of which are presented in this collection: these include new compositions, improvisations, re recordings of existing RPO scores, and sound tracks made for silent films created by a variety of participants who joined for different periods of time over the three days.
