A Gathering (part of doing together 24)
A Gathering
Workshop with Sally Wetherall as part of doing together 24
Friday 5 April 2024
This session involved the gathering of mark making and materials to examine the concept of trace - what is left behind and what is made visible through process and focusing on mark making and transfer as a form of documentation.
Following a demonstration of the possibilities of material and process to create marks and prints using found materials from landscape, such as bark, dried seed heads and local clay to create marks, print and transfer, participants were given the opportunity to develop their own unique marks and processes. A final gathering of the objects, marks, traces in different forms responding to material, memory and time were exhibited in the Michael Pennie Gallery.

Workshops, delivered by staff and postgraduate students from across the University, share practice-based research methods and a broad range of approaches to practice. doing together is proposed as a generous space to make/do/share and discuss practice with colleagues from a range of different Schools.
Throughout the symposium, facilitators – alongside participants – test out ways of doing together in an effort to make their practice-based research explicit, rather than simply describe it.
