This item contains appendices relating to the PhD thesis, Embodying the Eerie: An investigation of the Eerie as a Dramaturgical Concept in Processes of Directing Devised Performance, by doctoral candidate Mary Steadman.
This Is The Land is a performance that explores the eeriness of place through references to Folk Horror. Spectral landscapes are explored through a structure of the seasons, as the past and lost futures are summoned through the 'eerie materiality of sound technology'. The non-linear montage resists narrative and layers time as a dyschronia, with 'ghostly figures' appearing as 'abstract projections' arising in a 'thin place'. The production was filmed in rehearsal in the Dance Studio, Bath Spa University, in July 2022, and at the Network Theatre, VAULT Festival, London, in February 2023
