‘HiFlo-DAT’ (Himalayan Flood Database) is a bi-lateral (India, UK) contribution to the international disaster risk reduction (DRR) agenda of developing methodologies for the assembly, analysis, and application of disaggregated/ sub-national scale disaster loss data; here for mountain floods in the Kullu and Manali Tehsils, Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh, India. Encompassing 3561 km2 or c. 0.67% of the Indian Himalayan Region.

The 'HiFlo-DAT' architecture is aligned to international best practice and local needs. It uses English-language documentary materials, principally newspapers and government reports (1835-2020), and after rigorous processing comprises 128 flood (F) events, at 59 locations, over 175 years (1846-2020).

This film provides an overview of the 'HiFlo-DAT' research project and its application. It takes the audience on a journey detailing: hazard/ disaster challenges in mountain environments; the 'HiFlo-DAT' methodology and analyses in the Kullu District; connections to DRR policy and practice; and future upscaling/ transferability capacity.
