Over three years, members of the Creative Computing team have partnered with ShangriLa and Lost Horizon to develop immersive, participatory creative technology installations at Glastonbury Festival. Using discursive and iterative design methodologies and engaging DIY and activist cultures, these installations aim to invite meaningful sociodigital dialogues about the social consequences of emerging technologies, including AI and surveillance in public realms, and social VR. A key aspect of this project has been the collaboration with the Shangri-La area of the festival, which has deepened our understanding of how to effectively design for ‘place’ in the context of large-scale music and arts festivals and working with people whose experiences are rooted in the counterculture and DIY scenes on which UK festivals are built. This insight is essential for working with diverse festival teams to create participatory creative technology installations that are both accessible and resonate with audiences at one of the UK’s largest and most iconic festivals.

This item contains a PDF Practice Research Portfolio (draft version) including a timeline for the project, research insights and details of the research dissemination.
