Presentation 5 from the 'Capturing Creativity 2025' seminar series, on Friday 17th October 2025.

Chair: Dr. Gareth Cole, University of Exeter.

Dr. Gareth Cole is the Open Research Manager at the University of Exeter. Until recently, he held a similar position at Loughborough University. He is also a member of the Open Book Futures Project where he co-leads the work on Archiving and Preserving Open Access Books. He has a PhD in Maritime History from Exeter and still conducts research on eighteenth century British History when he can.

Speakers: Dr. Catherine Maffioletti and Hannah Wilson.

Dr Catherine Maffioletti is a feminist performance artist. I have been exhibiting my work for 25years, and I also practice art and design for social engagement. I completed my practice research/management role on a European co-design project in 2023. I am currently collaborating with the Youth Justice Services in the Royal Borough of Greenwich to engage young people in our local area in creative practices at University of Greenwich. I have taught on arts, design and media programmes for the last 15 years. I have peer reviewed for conferences and journals, and set-up systems for practice research submissions to the REF in two Universities (REF2021 and 29), one of which was awarded (TDAP) University status for which my work was highly commended by the QAA. I am currently developing the Practice Hub in our Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences, at University of Greenwich, and developing the University’s regulations on Practice-based PhDs in collaboration with our Doctoral College. The Institute of Inclusive Communities and Environments has really shaped our focus on civic engagement and here at Greenwich we are passionate about practice, research, the professions, outreach and public engagement for meaningful impact.

Hannah Wilson - Hannah joined the University of Greenwich in 2024 as Scholarly Communications Manager with a background in academic publishing with a specific focus on open research and underserved research communities. Her role encompasses open access and open research support across the University, our institutional repository GALA, and the outputs portion of REF 2029 preparations.

Abstract: This session will share insights and lessons learned from an ongoing project at the University of Greenwich aimed at actively integrating creative single- and multi-component outputs (MCOs) into annual mock REF cycles. The project has considered recording these outputs in our institutional repository, developing a REF-aligned assessment framework for these outputs, and recognising the importance of contextual information.

This item contains: MP4 recording of the presentation with transcription and Powerpoint slides.
