'HiFlo-DAT': Indian Himalayan Flood Database for Disaster Risk Reduction

<p> </p> <p>‘HiFlo-DAT’ (Himalayan Flood Database) is a bi-lateral (India, UK) contribution to the international disaster risk reduction (DRR) agenda of developing methodologies for the assembly, analysis, and application of disaggregated/ sub-national scale disaster loss data; here for mountain floods in the Kullu and Manali Tehsils, Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh, India. Encompassing 3561 km<sup>2</sup> or c. 0.67% of the Indian Himalayan Region.</p> <p><br></p> <p>The full findings of the project are published in Johnson, R.M., Pandey, B.W., Chand, K., Davies, C.L., Edwards, D., Edwards, E., Jeffers, J., King, K., Kuniyal, J.C., Mishra, H., Phillips, V., Roy, N., Seviour, J., Sharma, D.D., Sharma, P., Singh, H. and Singh, R.B. It uses English-language documentary materials, principally newspapers and government reports (1835-2020), and after rigorous processing comprises 128 flood (F) events, at 59 locations, over 175 years (1846-2020).</p> <p><br></p> <p>This collection comprises:</p> <p>(1) Flood Database (Excel, .xlsx)</p> <p>(2) Geospatial Data (Google Earth, .kmz)</p> <p>(3) Film (Weblink)</p> <p>(4) Policy Brief (.pdf)</p> <p><br></p> <p>Key project academic partners include: The University of Delhi (DU), GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBP-NIHE), Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), and Bath Spa University (with some UK team members now faculty at the University of Cumbria and the University of Gloucestershire).</p> <p><br></p> <p><br></p>
